Mount Girnar,also mentioned as "Raivataagiri" in Puranas written by Maharshi Vedvyaas,has been known throught history as the abode of saints and Yogis.It is the divine abode of Lord Duttatreya on this earth. At the base of it is located Junagadh city. Great sages consider Lord Duttatreya as their object of worship. Common people are always attracted to miracles and consider them to be the final goal of their worship, but Lord Duttatreya advises people to stay away from such temptations and make God realization final goal of their lives.
Absorbed in deep meditation, with matted hair, body smeared with sacred ash, always surrounded by Dogs, Supreme yogi Lord Duttatreya- whom only highly evolved and qualified devotees can know- resides here, at kamandalkund, permanently . He meditates here. Story goes that Lord Duttatreya, after taking permission from his parents,left his home for meditation. Traveling from place to place he came to Mount Girnar,which was then inundated with water.Sensing this He threw his calabash with full force.It fell on black rocks of Mount Girnar.The rocks cracked fom this force and out flowed Mother Ganga. She was pleased and told Lord Duttatreya that her flow will continue for the welfare of devotees-This place is “Kamandal Kund”. On the rocks of Mount Girnar these signs can still be seen. After that, Lord Duttatreya kindled Holy Fire, which keeps on lighting even today for the welfare of all living beings.
Every Monday this holy place is opened, sacred ash from above Holy Fire removed and till 9 am in the morning devotees can have darsan of this Holy Fire. After traditional worship, it is again covered by sacred ash. Every evening an Aarti is performed at this place.
, Lord Duttatreya’s holy place, where Holy Fire continuously keeps lighting, is today known among devotees as “Shree Kamandal Kund Sansthan” Lord Duttatreya has meditated at this place for 12,000 years and even today he continues his meditation. Many great sages have also sanctified this place by meditating here for many years and serving the pilgrims with lot oflove. Many followers of this place have continued this tradition. Service to humanity is like our motto. Since many years free food is served to pilgrims. Tired pilgrims get rest and nutritionus food at our place. Girnar Parikrama ( circumambulation) Fair, Maha Shivratri Fair, Dattatray-Jayanti… whatever may be the occasion, our volunteers are always eager to serve the pilgrims.
Because this is Lord Duttatreya’s abode , the number of pilgrims is increasing day by day. Rope-way facility is also coming up here within some time.
At present around 2500 pilgrims are daily served meal in our kitchen and we have enough facility to provide night stay to around 30-40 pilgrims. But in coming days, with the Rope-way facility coming up, the number of pilgrims is going to increase may affect.
